Day 3 - Around Poolewe

Just a few miles in the car today as we stayed local and explored the headlands around Loch Ewe and Inverewe Gardens.

Poolewe, Pool House

We had a wonderful 2 nights at the Pool House and felt so lucky to have great weather and such warm hosts of Peter Harrison and his lovely family. I just had to grab this shot as the sun rose to see daylight breaking over Loch Ewe.

Poolewe, Pool House

The river mouth meets the sea at the Pool House and on a rising tide it is fascinating to watch the cormorants, herons and seals gathering in position to follow the mackerel as they in turn chase the white bait.

Poolewe, Inverewe Gardens

Looking into the Inverewe Gardens a lone gannet circles looking for his next meal.

Firemoor Beach

A glorious piece of Wester Ross coastline with terrific views in all directions. Crystal clear waters are punctuated with rocks and sandy outcrops

Its hard to believe now that this was once full of ships and boats. Loch Ewe was a significant location for the Russian envoys and North Atlantic fleet with anti-submarine nets below the surface and gun posts on each side of the entrance.
