Day 6 - Lochinver to Durness

A delightful journey north now to our next destination in Durness. Gradually the road opened up from single track to two lanes almost signalling that we were leaving something behind.

Mount Suilven

After a couple of days around Lochinver and the imposing sights of Suilven and Stack Pollaidh we headed north  passing Suilven for the last time.

Loch Assynt

And just around the corner is another stunning view. The air is so clear and produces so much deep texture and contrasting aspects. The sky appears almost 3 dimensional.

Kyle of Durness

This view was a completely unexpected surprise and was a great place to stop off for lunch and a walk. The tide was retreating and in the bright sunlight it presented a beautiful landscape. What a view from that house on the shore.

Kyles of Durness

I couldn't resist a close up using a longer lens. How many people would guess that this was one of the most Northerly points in the UK.

After checking in to the very welcoming Mackay Lodge we took a walk down to the Durness beach. Just as a brief shower cleared a bright rainbow showed its colours - or are there two?.
