Day -2 Up to Loch Lomond

Up the M6 and M74 towards Kilmacolm, Greenock and Loch Lomond

B788 Auchmountain Road

A visit to Kilmacolm, where we once lived,  and then along a road we had used frequently on the way to Greenock. It was a glorious late summer's day with distant views across to Helensburgh and beyond. Ben Lomond is just visible in the distance.

River Clyde

We stopped for a sandwich on the esplanade near Battery Park in Greenock and spotted Drum gently heading upstream. Apparently it's now owned by Arnold Clark for Corporate sailing days - formerly owned by Simon Le Bon and a competitor in the 1986 Whitbread Round the World Race.

Loch Lomond

We checked in to a Lodge Hotel for the night at the southern end of Loch Lomond. There were some late summer water sports and it is a popular visitor centre for outward bound courses.

Loch Lomond

A boisterous wedding was well underway and the celebrations paused briefly around 9pm  to enjoy a spectacular firework display outside our balcony to lots of 'oohs' and 'aaahs'

Loch Lomond

After a full Scottish breakfast a spectacular sky sent us on our way up Loch Lomond and on towards Inverness. We took the high road and others took the low road.
